Dr. Maureen Asks some important questions of interest to Toronto residents - Chiropractor Toronto Dr. Maureen Asks...

What's the difference between sick care and health care?
Sick care is largely about relieving or suppressing symptoms. Health care is about improving performance. While sick care is about how you feel, health care is about how you function. Sick care is what you do to treat an obvious problem, and health care is what you do to avoid the problem and advance your well-being.
Why does chiropractic work?
Chiropractic works because your nervous system, consisting of your brain, spinal cord and all the nerves of your body, controls and regulates every cell, tissue, organ and system of your body. A chiropractor locates and reduces areas of nervous system compromise (usually along the spine) so your capacity to heal is restored. Chiropractic works by helping your body work as it was designed.

Introducing Toronto Chiropractor Dr. Maureen Borghoff

"My friends and family thought he was crazy but, as a very young child my Dad regularly took me to the chiropractor," Dr. Borghoff explains. "What I knew was that I enjoyed it very much.  Looking back I had no health concerns, no pain but when I ask my dad now it is that he just wanted me to be at my best and he knew that chiropractic was important for everyone."

Dr. Maureen Borghoff

"As a teen my idol (my chiropractor) did an examination and, out of the blue, she touched one of the bones of my spine and said, "You have very irregular periods don’t you?"  I think my eyes looked the size of pumpkins and replied with some hesitation, "yes," continues Dr. Borghoff. "As I walked out of the office that day I couldn’t help but question how she knew that! That’s when I decided I wanted to be a chiropractor."

Dr. Borghoff began her pre-chiropractic education at the University of Ottawa where she studied the basic sciences such as inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, along with basic physiology and anatomy courses.

After completing her study there, she was accepted at New York Chiropractic College in Seneca Falls, New York. During her four years at NYCC, courses included biochemistry, a major emphasis on anatomy and human physiology, x-ray, diagnosis, chiropractic adjusting techniques and patient care in the Cheektowaga Chiropractic Health Clinic. After graduating in 1998 Dr. Borghoff returned to the Toronto area to establish her practice.

"We love skeptics," smiles Dr. Borghoff. "I know the concerns and apprehension people have when they come to the chiropractor for the first time. So we make it a point to explain everything in advance, answer questions and attempt to over communicate. Our practice members appreciate that."

Dr. Borghoff is married to Brian with a step-daughter Sophie and dog Zen. They live in Bloor West Village.

Maureen sees her chiropractic weekly to ensure her nerve system is clear and stress free. Other foundations Maureen has incorporated into her healthy lifestyle include daily juicing, regular ayurvedic and Swedish massage, jin shin jitsu, homeopathy, yoga and fitness training. She is focused on eating locally grown organic and wholesome foods and provides the same for her family. "I feel I live the chiropractic lifestyle. I am constantly looking to improve myself, grow and live a vibrant life each and everyday" explains Dr. Maureen. " I haven't had a cold or flu for over five years and feel I am much healthier than people my age and younger!"

I believe everyone has the right to feel amazing, happy and full of energy. You deserve it, your family deserves it and we can make a difference in the wellbeing of our world by being healthy. I hope I can be a source of inspiration for you to live your best life! If not now... when?
